The Eldership Team
We believe in a plurality of elders - ie. all pastors are part of a larger body of men who have collective responsibility for the spiritual oversight of the church.
 Peter Somervell
Senior Pastor / Elder
Peter Somervell does most of the preaching at HBC. Peter was trained at The Master's Seminary in Los Angeles and was appointed at HBC in July 2006 after serving for several years at Wanganui East Baptist Church.

 Joe Fleener
Associate Pastor / Elder
Joe Fleener began his role as Associate Pastor in December 2010. Joe received his theological training at Calvary Baptist Seminary in Lansdale, PA, USA. He is also an adjunct lecturer of Church History, Christian Worldview, Apologetics and Christian Ethics at The Shepherd's Bible College (Hastings), and regional trainer for BibleWorks in New Zealand.

Barrie is usually the first contact with HBC many visitors have. Barrie oversees a team whose special ministry it is to make visitors feel welcome and to look after the specific needs of individuals / families in the church.
