In one sense the Church is made up of all those who are true Christians from all time and from all over the world (the universal church).

Yet the Bible most often speaks of the church in a local sense, forming a representation of the body of Christ (1 Cor 12). It is a local gathering of true Christians who have covenanted themselves together in membership for the purpose of building each other up in their growth to the fullness of God in Christ (Eph 4:11-16).
