Jesus said, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10) Obtaining, celebrating, teaching and sharing this abundant life is what we are all about.
At Howick Baptist Church, we’re a bunch of imperfect people:
- who believe in God the Father, God the Son Jesus Christ, and God the Holy Spirit – one God;
- who are repentant of our sin and have been saved by personal faith in Jesus Christ through his atoning death and resurrection;
- who publicly proclaim our faith, committed to the mandate as given by our Lord in Matthew 28:18-20.
As a local church in Howick, we desire to be characterised as God-centred, Christ-focused, and Gospel-driven.
One family in Christ
Our church is a small reflection of the multicultural communities in the Howick and Eastern suburbs, and how we can be united as one family under Jesus Christ. You’ll get to know people of all ages, many nations and diverse cultures.
On Sundays (at 9:30am and 6:00pm) we gather to read, hear, pray and sing about Jesus as He’s revealed in the Bible. We look to the Bible as the highest authority on what to believe and how to live.

Governed by members, led by elders
As a church, HBC is governed through its members, captive only to the will of God (Matthew 18, 1 Cor 5).
A plurality of elders (the Leadership Team; including our Senior Pastor as a teaching elder) are entrusted by the church to provide spiritual oversight and direction.
A team of deacons (the Management Team) are responsible for the support functions of the church (including finance, administration, buildings and equipment).
We live to serve
Every ministry and program in our church exists to exalt God through worship, equip the saints through the ministry of the Word, and evangelise the lost through gospel ministry. Ministry leaders serve under the spiritual oversight of the Leadership Team to support and fulfil the various ministries of HBC.
HBC is affiliated with the Baptist Union of Churches in New Zealand, and seeks to cooperate in areas of shared mission. We also partner with other gospel-preaching churches in New Zealand to make Jesus Christ known.
